The Yankees' best pitcher on their 2010 roster is a toss up between two starters. A.J. Burnett and Joba Chamberlain both have a chance at twenty-plus wins for the season.
Spud Chandler had a 1.64 ERA in 1943.
Currently, the Yankees number one pitcher is CC Sabathia.
CBS bought the Yankees after the 1964 season and sold to George Steinbrenner prior to the 1973 season. The Yankees record in the 8 seasons CBS owned them was 636-649 with their best season coming in 1970 when they went 93-69 and finished 2nd in the AL East.

Well here goes. believe it or not it was Melido Perez. He started 33 games that season and completed 10 of those 33. He pitched 247.2 innings and struckout 218. He had an era of only 2.87, but his record was below .500, he led the team in wins with 13. But also led the team in losses with 16. Steve Farr was the best reliever the Yankees had that season. He was 2-2 with a 1.56 era in 50 games with 30 saves. Farr maybe the best pitcher on the 1992 Yankees.

My best research seems to indicate that the Yankees first African-American pitcher seems to be Al Downing, who joined the Yanks as a 20 year old lefthander in the 1961 season appearing in 5 games, starting one and compiling a record of 0-1 with an era of 8.00.
114-48 in the 1998 season. They went on to win the World Series that season.
