Nastia Liukin.
Her best event is probably the uneven bars. She usually is very consistent on the uneven bars, and it is her highest-scoring event (other than vault.) She is known for her high-flying release skills on this event.
Olga Korbut is a Soviet gymnast who won four gold medals and two silver medals in the Olympics in 1972 and 1976. Korbut was also the creator of the Korbut Flip, which is performed on the uneven bars and balance beam.
In the championships Beth has competed in, she has won the most in uneven bars and then floor exercise.
She got the 1984 all around gold, but reputably her best event was vault :D
Olga Korbut is the best gymnast. She is from Russia. But that's just an opinion.
Britain, unlike Russia, America and China (as well as others like Belarus and Ukraine), is not known to be good at gymnastics, unlike our performances in Rowing and Cycling, and putting together a team. For Gymnastics in general, you have to split it into 3 categories (not including Men and Women Trampoline) : Women's gymnastics (which includes apparatus like the balance beam and uneven bars), Men's gymnastics (which include strenght based elements in the performance like the parallel bars, pommel horse, table and in my opinion the toughest, the rings) and Rhythmic gymnastics (women only, and using objects like the hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon). In my opinion, Britain's best female gymnast is Beth Tweddle. She is 27, and her specialities being Uneven bars where she loves to include fast twisting to be travels between the bars and floor exercise. She has two World Championship titles in uneven bars (her speciality) and a World Championship title in floor exercise. In total, she has won 1 gold and two silvers in the Commonwealth games, 6 golds, 4 silver and 1 bronze in the European Championships, 1 gold and 1 silver in the World Cup Final, 3 golds and 2 bronzes in the World championships and a bronze in the 2012 London Olympics. In total she has won: 10 golds, 5 silvers and 4 bronzes. In my opinion, Britain's best male gymnast is Louis Smith. This is because of two reasons. One , his total medal count are 2 golds, 6 silvers and 5 bronzes. Two, he was tied with Hungary's Krisztain Berki's score, but was awarded with silver due to Berki's higher execution score. His speciality is Pommel Horse. In my opinion, Britain's best rhythmic gymnast is Lynne Hutchinson. She is 17, the second youngest member of the GB rhythmic team with the youngest member being Annie Bartlett. She is a Commonwealth bronze medalist and has competed as a former Junior British gymnast. She is England's top ranked rhythmic gymnast and has competed in 12 different countries.
Prior to the 2008 Olympic Games, Beth Tweddle has not won an Olympic medal. She has won three medals at the World Championships (1 gold, 2 bronze) and five medals at the European Championships (1 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze).
Before the new scoring system came along, a ten was the best score you could get on any gymnastics event. It was rare. I'm pretty sure Nadia Comaneci won 2: one on uneven bars and one on beam. Another gymnast, i think it was Mary Lou Retten, won one on vault.
Betty Okino was a notable American gymnast who was a professional from years 1988 to 1992. The balance beam was her best event in which performed her famous "Okino" move (a triple pirouette) in a few competitions, in others she would do a double pirouette which is still difficult to do. Unlike Dawes, she wasn't the best tumbler but she was highly skilled in dancing which made her floor exercise routines a treat to watch. She also had a uneven bars dismount named after her as well ( clear hip underswing with a half twist to a layout salto). Unfortunately, an injury plagued her and she had to retire in 1992.
The best women gymnast in the world is beth tweddle.
