Steve Van Buren is a pro football Hall of Famer who was a running back for the Philadelphia Eagles between 1944-1951. He is best known for his performances in the NFL Championship games in 1948 and 1949, both of which the Eagles won. In the 1948 Championship game, Van Buren scored the only TD as the Eagles defeated the Chicago Cardinals, 7-0, in a driving snow storm. In the 1949 NFL Championship game, Van Buren ran for a then record 196 yards as the Eagles defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 14-0. At the time of his retirement in 1952, he held the NFL career records for yards rushing (5,860) and rushing TDs (69).
