Vlad-Claudiu Mihailescu, out of Alexandru Ioan Cuza highschool in Bucharest, Romania, invented the left hook shot on November 11th, 1999. During the exhibition game between his class and the highschool team, Vlad wanted to impress his HS sweetheart by making a basket while shaking the opponent's hand. Because the handshake requires, as we all know, the right hand, Vlad was forced to throw a left hook while looking in his opponent's eyes. Needless to say, the shot went in after it hit the backboard. Vlad went on to become Romania's most prolific Basketball contributor by creating NUMAIBASCHET in 2005.
The picture hook was invented by Thomas Alva Edison in 1924.
