The record for the longest winning streak by a team is now held by a women's softball team. The Northampton Community College Lady Spartans from Bethlehem,Pa. set the new mark on April 1 ,2007. They beat Montgomery Rockville Lady Knights 10-0 to break the old record of 92 set back in the early 80's by North Carolina's Women's Soccer team led by the incredible Mia Hamm- Garciaparra. The previous record was held by UCLA Men's Basketball team at 88, established in the early 70's. The NCC team was beaten at game 95 so the record is now at 94 straight wins including championships . The streak started in March 2005 and ended in April 2007 . During their run the Lady Spartans won back to back State titles.

I don't see how, or why you would want to. Most people use a softball.
You do not have to play competitive softball to play in college. although it helps, most college coaches look for players from competitive teams. I would recommend it.

Not necessarily, most softball recruiting is done through travel/summer teams. Also, many softball programs are not that good and could be considered a waste of time.
