Babe Ruth- 714 is really #2. Hank Aaron has 755 and should be #1, but Barry Bonds**** has 762 but he used steroids. In my mind and the mind of all MLB fans, Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, Canseco, etc. records are all shattered and never happened.

Technically speaking Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs in 2001 breaking Mark McGwire's 1998 record of 70. However, because of steroid allegations, it was in vogue for purists to demand an asterisk be placed by the records to reflect the time period in which they played. The asterisk dates back to 1961 when Roger Maris hit 61 home runs to best Babe Ruth's former record of 60. Commissioner Fay Vincent placed an asterisk by Maris' record because of an expanded schedule that allowed Maris to play in more games in one season than Ruth dud.
