Paddy McCarthy (born May 31, 1983 in Dublin) is an Irish footballer who, as of March 2014, plays for Crystal Palace. McCarthy started his career for Manchester City, though he did not pick up a senior appearance in three years at the side, spending short periods of time on loan at Boston United and Notts County. Becoming an in favour centre-back for two seasons at Leicester City from 2005, he spent a year at Charlton Athletic before moving to Crystal Palace in 2008. McCarthy was honoured with Crystal Palace's goal of the season in 2009, and is, during the 2013-14 season, club captain.
It is not known as a "big rivalry" as such, but both of these clubs certainly have a dislike for one another. The main reason for this is around the mid 80's and through to the near past both clubs have been in the same divisions and have had relegation and promotion battles with eachother. As well as that they are reasonably local to each other to. Crystal Palace fans have mixed views on who their main rivals are. Some say Brighton are, others argue that it is Millwall or QPR. The Majority of Brighton and Hove Albion fans would class Palace as their main rivals but there are some that have more dislike for Portsmouth.
