That was the highest scoring and largest margin of victory in a national championship game in the history of college football. The Huskers played four top 10 teams that year and won by an average score of 49-18. Their average margin of victory was 38 points. They own Division 1A records for averaging 7.0 yards per rush for the season and not allowing their quarterback to be sacked all season. Their closest game all year was a 35-21 victory over Washington state. They trailed briefly at the beginning of the game, the only time they trailed all season. They also ended the game on Washington State's 1 yard line with a knee.
