In the history of the BCS era (1998-2013), there were several undefeated teams that did not make it to the BCS title game. Notably, in the 2004 season, both Auburn and Utah finished undefeated but were excluded from the championship matchup. Similarly, in 2010, TCU went undefeated and did not participate in the title game. Overall, at least five undefeated teams from various seasons did not make it to the BCS title game.

They have to make it to the BCS championship game first. They have a game with Arizona on 11/26 and a game with rival Oregon State on 12/3. If they win both of those games, they will get to play against Auburn or Boise State or TCU in the BCS Championship game.
to be ranked no. 1 or 2 in the BCS standings at the end of the season.
No, the BCS is decided by a single game, the winner is the champion. However, there has been a shared National Championship since the BCS began. LSU won the BCS national title game in 2003, but the AP granted the National Championship to USC.
the orange, rose, sugar, fiesta, and the national title game.
The coaches and sportswriters vote for the teams that play in the title game. Infamously, Boise State University went 12-0, 10-2, 12-0, and 13-0 in consecutive years and was left out of the title game each year for a team with a worse record.
The BCS came into picture in the 1998 season. The first BCS championship game was held in January of 1999 between Tennessee and Florida State. Tennessee won 23-16 to become the first BCS National Champions.
I belive the BCS is completely wrong. The teams that go undefeated allt he time like Boise State or TCU, never get a chance to play in the National Title game. Only because they are members of weak conference? That is really stupid. Give them a chance.
