Sherman Poppen in 1965 invented the Snufer. The name is a combination of snow and surfer. The Snufer had no bindings and was a very simple design. There are many arguments about weather this was actually the first snowboard since modern day designs are nothing like this original. Jake Burton Carpenter was the first to create bindings and thus Burton Snowboards was born.
