# of AL pitchers hitting interleague HRsThere have been 12 home runs hit by 12 different AL pitchers off of 11 different NL pitchers during interleague play since it began in 1997. Russ Ortiz is the only NL pitcher to have given up 2 HR's to pitchers batting during interleague play. The Angels, Twins, Yankees, Athletics and have never had a pitcher hit a HR during interleague play, nor did the Brewers during their last season in the AL in 1997.The Cubs, Rockies, Marlins, Astros, Pirates, Padres, Giants, and the Cardinals have never given up a HR to an AL pitcher during regular season interleague play, nor have the Nationals, though the franchise did give up one in 2003 when they were still the Montreal Expos.Esteban Yan has been on both ends as he holds the distinction as being the only pitcher to have both hit a HR during interleague play while playing in the AL and have given up a HR during interleague play to an AL pitcher while playing in the NL.Cleveland is the only AL team to have had more than one pitcher hit a HR during interleague play. They have had four. On the other side, the Reds have given up four HRs to AL pitchers during interleague play. The only other teams to have given up more than one are the Mets and Dodgers, who have both given up two.

Steve Trachsel of the Chicago Cubs was the Pitcher that Mark McGwire went deep on in order to get his 62nd Homerun in the 1998 season.
The National League. The American League has a designated hitter.
american. pitcher doesn't bat
Well in the American league it is required to have a designated hitter for the pitcher but if the pitcher were to pitch in the national league the pitcher is required do both
The only time a National League team can use a DH is when they are playing against an American League in their stadium (so the National League team would be visitors). The opposite is true for the American League.. if they are playing a National League team in their stadium (so the American League would be visitors) they are required to have their pitcher bat
There are two leagues in American major league baseball, the American League and the National League. The American League has the designated hitter rule which allows for someone other than the pitcher to bat in the pitcher's place. The pitcher does not bat in the American League. The National League does not have the designated hitter rule. The pitcher does bat in the National League.
no... the only difference between American and national league is that there is a DH in the roster for American league and the pitcher doesnt bat in American league... other than that it is exactly the same
Pitchers have always taken their turn at bat in the national league. Only the American league has a "designated hitter". - bill
3 outs in an inning. 9 innings. 3 bases. 9 fielders. 1 pitcher. 2 leagues. If it clears the wall it is a homerun.
