Whilst every Rugby supporter will have their very own opinion on this and many will select their own home nation or regional team, there is one that is respected and aknowledged globaly as one of the best in the game - The New Zealand All Blacks.
New Zealand are arguabbly the best rugby nation in the world.
It is a matter of personal preference, but they are certainly among the most successful teams.
Original answer is not true. This depends on which 'Rugby' we are talking about - Rugby League or Rugby Union?Rugby League: Brisbane Broncos, they are the most famous and most popular sporting club in Australia, the most supported sporting club in Australia, the most successful over the past 20 years in Rugby League History and also the most known Rugby League club in the world.Rugby Union: Brumbies and QLD Reds, both are the only teams to win the Super Rugby competition from Australia. The Queensland Reds always produce the largest audience for a Rugby match in Australia and are always re-knowned for their flair. The Brumbies are the most successful Super Rugby team in Australia.

The two most successful sports franchise world wide are the New York Yankees of American Major League Baseball, and the Manchester United soccer club in England. Edit: Manchester United aren't even the most successful English team, that is Liverpool FC. In Europe, Real Madrid are considered the most successful with FIFA voting them the most successful club of the 20th century.
I doubt you would ever get an exact figure on that one. Considering most towns have their own rugby teams and schools have rugby teams then there are pub teams and probably loads more i can't think of, your probably looking at a good few thousand, if not more.
The crusaders have won the most titles out of all the teams and are the most consistent.....
