He started out selling peanuts, and when he advanced to calling the lineups he was using a large megaphone. Pat died in 1976 well into his 80s and was still announcing at that time. Pat Pieper was my mother's great uncle, so my brother and I had the privelege of attending Cubs games with him as children, and we were able to meet many of the greats including Ernie Banks and Casey Stengel.
