It has been proven that the inside lane is the fastest, purely due to the fact that the runner is closer to the gun and hears it first. Yes, it does sound obsurd to believe this, but a scientist said it's true, it makes a difference.
In the 1600m run, the best lane to start in is typically the inside lane, which is Lane 1. This allows the runner to take the shortest route around the track, minimizing the distance they need to cover. However, some runners may prefer to start in an outer lane if they want to avoid congestion or if they have a specific strategy in mind for their race. Ultimately, the choice of lane can depend on the runner's strengths and tactics.
All lanes are equal. You still run the same amount of meters. However, lane one you have to catch up a bit. Lane two is kinda alright. Lanes 3 and 4 are the best. Lane 5 is a focus lane. Lane 6 is an apprehensive lane. Lanes 7 and 8 are lanes where you will have to maintain your speed or pick it up in order to win.

Yes!
Run in lane 1 if you have the choice. This would only matter in long distance races. Running in lane 1 allows you to put in less effort to get around the track because every next lane to the outside of the first is almost 3 meters longer and this would matter in the long run. If somebody is in front of you in lane 1, go to lane 2 and run a little faster to get ahead of that guy. Only do that if you know you can catch that guy ahead of you. Hopefully this was what you were looking for!

A chute.
On a standard track, one would run on the inside lane and do four complete laps to run 1600 meters (app one mile). The runners who run in any of the outer lanes get a staggered start (head start) to make up for the distance that one loses because of the wider turns. So, just stay on the inside lane and do four laps.
