A parachute is an umbrella-like shape of material from which a person hangs by lines. It is used to allow a person to jump from an aeroplane, balloon, etc, and to safely land on the ground. No gas is involved, apart from the atmosphere the parachutist descends through.
Parachutes don't use gas.
