An autograph that is not authenticated by a reputable company could sell at half the price or less than one that is. Two of the top, and most trusted authenticators are PSA/DNA, and James Spence Authentic (JSA). Collectors will pay more for signatures authenticated by either one. It may sound odd but in some cases PSA/DNA, and JSA authenticated signatures may sell higher than a Letter of authenticity from an unknown or less trusted authenticator that witnessed the signing even though PSA/DNA, and JSA did not. It's just a matter of collectors trust, and collectors will pay more for it. They authenticate all Sports Memorabilia. Check their respective websites Show Schedule to see if they will be in the area that you live. They also do business through the mail. Before spending money on having an autograph authenticated do your homework. Find signatures on line that have been properly authenticated, and compare them to yours. If you feel comfortable that they are authentic then proceed. If you are authenticating game used items you might want to check out MEARS as well. For existing COA's of presigned items, companies like Upper Deck, MLB, or Steiner Sports that use holograms on the Items that they authenticate hold the most weight. Items authenticated by these companies could sell at a higher value than third party COA's from PSA/DNA, and JSA.

What is a Lou gehrig signed shirt is worth?

With COA's from AAunlimited.com or other reputable companies you should get a minimum of $3000 at any shop (framed of course), but if you take time to find a nation wide sports auctioneer and hand over the certificates of authenticity (coa) I'd go so far as to say well over $5K! What will up the value is COA's for the signature, for the fact he wore it and not just signed it and for any other history that is PROVABLE.
