Well here goes. believe it or not it was Melido Perez. He started 33 games that season and completed 10 of those 33. He pitched 247.2 innings and struckout 218. He had an era of only 2.87, but his record was below .500, he led the team in wins with 13. But also led the team in losses with 16. Steve Farr was the best reliever the Yankees had that season. He was 2-2 with a 1.56 era in 50 games with 30 saves. Farr maybe the best pitcher on the 1992 Yankees.
No -- the best is three games, done more than once. John Wetteland had four SAVES for the New York Yankees in the 1996 World Series. It may seem strange that, right after doing so, Wettland was released by the Yankees. However, his replacement, Mariano Rivera, hasn't done so badly as a reliever.
As of July 25, 2010, Mariano Rivera holds the New York Yankees record for most saves with 546. He is ranked #2 on the all-time list behind Trevor Hoffman.
