The 1927 Duluth Eskimos were the first NFL team to display their logo, an igloo, on their helmets.
The Duluth team originated in 1925 as the NFL's Duluth Kelleys, their sponsor being the Kelley-Duluth Hardware Store. The name was changed to the Eskimos for 1926 and 1927. The franchise did not operate in 1928, and it was transferred to Orange, New Jersey, in 1929, to operate as the Orange Tornadoes. The following year it became the Newark, New Jersey, Tornadoes.
The franchise was idle for the next two years, but was purchased by Preston Marshall, who merged it with the also idle Boston Bulldogs franchise and resurrected it as the Boston Braves in 1932. In 1933 the Boston Braves became the Boston Redskins.

The Minnesota NFL team is nicknamed the "Vikings". Think of the classic image of a Viking, with the classic horned helmet. The logo on the Vikings' helmets is supposed to look like those horns sticking out. Obviously, trying to do a 2-d drawing of the horns like that leaves a bit to be desired and one has to look at it with a little imagination.
The Steelers only have one logo because when they originally put the steel mark on the helmets they wanted to see how it looked on the gold helmets and put it just on one side. And later that year they went to the playoffs for the first time so as good luck they decided to change the helmet to black to show the logo better and keep the one side.
