* UCLA vacated its participation in the 1980 Final Four due to the use of ineligible players. The men's basketball program was placed on probation in 1982 by the NCAA.
** The Ohio State University vacated their 1999 Final Four appearance as punishment for the actions of former coach Jim O'Brien.
*** The University of Michigan vacated the results of 114 games won while four players (Chris Webber, Maurice Taylor, Robert Traylor and Louis Bullock) were not eligible, including the 1992 and 1993 Final Fours.
**** Memphis State's 1985 Final Four appearance was vacated due to using ineligible players, as were all tournament appearances from 1982-1986.
Through March Madness 2008, North Carolina and UCLA are credited with 18 Final Four appearances which is the tops of all schools. UCLA has actually been in 19 Final Fours but their 1980 appearance was vacated by the NCAA when it was found that they had used ineligible players during the season. Now North CArolina is winning with a 2009 apperence in the final four, which makes 19 times for UNC
John Wooden has the most, probably Coach K is up there. John wooden has 11 Final Fours: 1962, 1964, 1965, 1967-1973, 1975. Coack K has 10 Final Fours: 1986, 1988-1992, 1994, 1999, 2001, 2004. UCLA went to 10 consecutive Final Fours from 1967-1976. The next longest Final Four streak is held by Cincinnati and Duke with 5. Cincinnati did it from 1959-1963 and Duke from 1988-1992, both schools winning back to back championships along the way. Several Schools have 3 consecutive Final Fours including: San Francisco(1955-1957), Ohio St(1960-1962), North Carolina(1967-1969), Kentucky(1996-1998), and Michigan St(1999-2001). UCLA repeated a mini streak under coach Ben Howland with 3 Final Fours from 2006-2008.
The University of North Carolina Tarheels have the most Final Four appearances with 18 to-date.
The Big Ten Big Ten with 39, however the ACC has 38 before the 2008 final four. If UNC advances, those conferences will be tied.
