Not exactly. Anne loved figure skating, and she had a cousin four years older, named Bernd Elias whom she admired tremendously, as he was an expert figure skater. She very much wanted to skate with him again, and she contrived a plot line and even drew a costume for skating outfit she would wear to perform in a short film about skating with him. But she never expressed any desire to be a figue skater as a career, no - she wanted to be a writer.
Through the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, no ladies speed skater from Canada has won 5 gold medals. Lady speed skaters that have won Olympic gold medals for Canada are Catriona Le May Doan who won gold in 500 meters at the 1998 Games in Nagano and the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, Clara Hughes who won gold in 5000 meters at the 2006 Games in Nagano, and Cindy Klassen who won gold in 1500 meters at the 2006 Games in Turin. Cindy Klassen has won the most total medals of any Canadian athlete to participate in the Winter Olympics with 6 (1 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze).
