Fieldball, a variation of traditional field hockey, was first introduced in the United States in the late 19th century. The sport gained popularity among women in particular, with early organized play emerging in the 1900s. The United States Field Hockey Association, founded in 1922, played a crucial role in promoting and organizing the sport at a national level.
The 1903 World Series was played between the Pittsburg (yes, that was the official spelling of the city name in that year) Pirates, in Pennsylvania; and Boston Americans (later the Red Sox) in Massachusetts. The first game was played in Pittsburg.
