Lacrosse was invented by native American tribes mostly in what is now New York and Vermont hundreds of years before European colonization. The game was much different than it is now. The field was often a mile or so long and the goal was usually a wooden pole. Lacrosse was used for native American tribes to settle problems instead of going to war as well as recreation.
