E30 means the Idle Speed Control motor rpm is out of range, E31 is a shorted MAP sensor circuit. They are probably both related to a bad MAP sensor so replace it first.

Speed sensor is located on the tail of the tranny. On the side near the drive shaft. There is an electric connection that clips onto it and is held in by one 10 mm bolt.
I've bee told that the 1991 model doesn't have a cable it works off the speed sensor.

If it's the same as the 1991 4.0 , its on the drivers side of the engine in the upper portion of the intake manifold , just to right of the idle air control valve when you look from the drivers side
Unplug the electrical connection to the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) located on the drivers side of the tail shaft housing of the transmission. Remove the small bolt and clamp holding VSS in place. Wiggle the sensor out of the housing. Install in reverse order.
The speed sensor is located on the far backside of the transmission. the unit accually threads into the transmission case itself. the unit is very simple to replace once you get under the vehicle. please view my BIO for access to my Saturn help site. under the transmission folder is a picture of the speed sensor in relation to the transmission.
