The oil filter for the Liberty 3.7L engine is on the front of the engine, on the driver's side, at about a 30 degree angle pointing down, below the accessories. It it best accessed from the bottom side, but caution to wear gloves or arm guards so your arm isn't burned by the hot components. In my experience this mounting is the worst location for an oil filter ever, as it isn't easily accessed, and when you are able to unscrew it, it dumps oil all over the bottom of the engine (put a pan under the big hole in the skid plate to catch some of it), which then collects road grit in the skid plate area. Call Jeep to let them know you're not happy about it, and maybe they will listen with a remote oil filter mounting! it is simple to get to using a adjustible oil filter wrench, take the filter off from the rear and when you remove the filter do it slowly and tilt it back so it wont spill oil anywhere
