Where is the best place to scuba diving?

The major areas for scuba diving in the world are generally considered to be the Great Barrier Reef, the Red Sea, and the Caribbean. There are also some great scuba destinations at the archipelagos of Galapagos, Fiji, Hawaii, and the Maldives. Finally these smaller destinations are particularly famous for their spectacular diving: Cocos Island, Palau and Chuuk. In the US, Florida Keys and the coast off North Carolina is recommended.

It depends what you like to do.

For reefs, there are several excellent choices - the Caribbean, Red Sea, Thailand, Phillipines, Australia's Great Barrier Reef, amongst others.

For caves, Florida and Mexico have some of the best in the world.

For wrecks, the great "Meccas" of wreck diving are Truk Lagoon, Outer Bank of North Carolina, Scapa Flow and the Great Lakes, although individual great wreck dives are scattered all over the place.

There are other quirky things divers like to do (Blue Holes? Belize and the Bahamas. Aquariums? Atlanta and Epcot Centre are superb). Vive le difference, I say.
