It's located "inside" the transmission, under the tranny's side-cover. It's labor intensive because you must lower the whole engine/transmission cradle to access it. Side-note: @ the dealer, $1,200 labor & $30 part. Sucks, don't it. If you're mechanically inclined, it can be done, just add part, tools and patience. Oh, and a tech manual.

There are two speed sensors on a 1996 Dodge Avenger, an input speed sensor and an output speed sensor. Both are located on the front of the transmission.
It is mounted on the transmission.
on the top of the rear axle
It will be on top of the transmission near the shift linkage. It is the sensor with the three wires connected to it.

i found mine it is on the left side in the back of the engine on top of the trans
The speed sensor on a 1996 Honda Accord is found on top go the transmission. The sensor will have a two prong wire clipped into it.
It has a Speed sensor.
The 1996 Nissan 200 vehicle speed sensor can be found on the back of the transmission. The vehicle speed sensor will be in the upper left-hand corner of the transmission.
