An autograph that is not authenticated by a creditable company could sell at half the price or less than one that is, as would a grade Baseball. Two of the top, and most trusted authenticators are PSA/DNA and James Spence Authentic (JSA). PSA/DNA also has a grading service and the ball is placed in a special ball holder. Collectors will pay more for signatures authenticated by either one. It may sound odd but in some cases PSA/DNA, and JSA authenticated signatures may sell higher than a Letter of authenticity from an unknown or less trusted authenticator that witnessed the signing even though PSA/DNA, and JSA did not. It's just a matter of collectors trust, and collectors will pay more for it. Check the respective websites Show Schedule to see if they will be in the area that you live. They also do business through the mail.

Two authorized PCGS coin dealers in Mt. that I know of are Wayne Miller in Helena, and Missoula Gold and Silver Exchange. There are probably more, check the PCGA and NGC sites. Those are the two top third party grading companies.

Grading a Baseball card is just a process of evaluating the condition of the cards and assigning a numerical grade according to the result of the evaluation. It is not easy to grade them. You have to check the sharpness of the corners, centering of the printing, coloring, overall appearance, and if the card has any creases, rips, or staining. Beckett Grading Services and PSA Card Grading is the most reliable third party grading service providers.

The current coin grading system is based on 70 grades. The lower numbers indicate greater wear and as those numbers get progressively higher the condition of the coin improves until 70 is reached which indicates a perfectly struck coin with no flaws, scratches or nicks. Many of these companies have earned the respect of many collectors. However, also on the rise are coin grading companies who do not grade properly so when selecting a grading company care must be taken and a little research made to insure you select a reputable company.
