A mariner is a person who helps guide a ship. The northwest of the country has a great fishing industry. So the term "mariner" reflects on Seattle's rich history of being a port city and having a great sea-based economy.

∙ 15y agoWell the Seattle Seahawks got their name from peninsula highschool in Gig Harbor Washington. They got their name from a bird local to the area called an osprii (spelling?). So the seahawks asked if they could use the mascot and they did.
