The Battle of Antietam or also known as Sharpsburgwas fought along the Antietam Creek, which had 4 bridges that spanned it. One bridge was called the Rohrbach Bridge and was located near the Henry Rohrbach farm. During the battle, the Union troops under the command of General Burnside fought desperately to take control of this bridge. From then, it became known as the Burnside Bridge.
