Australia has had many triathlon champions: 1) Emma Snowsill won the gold medal in women's triathlon at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. She has also won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games (2006) and International Triathlon Union World Championships (2003, 2005, 2006). 2) Michellie Jones won the silver medal in women's triathlon at the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney and also won the 2006 Ironman World Champion title. 3) Loretta Harrop won the silver medal in women's triathlon at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens. She placed fifth in women's triathlon at the 2000 Games. 4) Chris McCormick is the only man to win the Triathlon World Championship and the International Triathlon Union World Cup Series in the same year (1997). 5) Peter Robinson has won three International Triathlon Union World Championships and has finished second at the World Championships twice.
