In February 2012 Liverpool FC won the Carling Cup trophy, their eigth time winning the trophy and the first time they won a trophy in six years. In fact the last time Liverpool FC won a major trophy was 6 years ago in 2006 when they narrowly won the FA Cup through a penalty shoot-out, having salvaged a last gasp goal to equalise 3-3 against West Ham United. Whilst it is true that they won the Carling Cup in the 2011-12 season, the Carling Cup has never been considered a "major trophy" by anyone.
