From Portsmouth to the coast of Normandy is about a hundred miles. -The ships involved in D-Day did not only leave Portsmouth, but almost every port from Folkestone to Plymouth.
The combined US, British and Canadian D-Day invasion force departed from Southsea Beach and Portsmouth Harbor in Portsmouth England. Southwick House which is located just to the North of Portsmouth served as Supreme Allied Commander Eisenhower's headquarters during D- Day.
