The dividing line between the races. In the early years of baseball, there were separate leagues, the Negro Leagues, for the African-American players. Jackie Robinson was the first to play in what is now Major League Baseball.
In the 19th century before the color line was drawn, the first African-American player was Moses Fleetwood Walker. In the 20th century, Jackie Robinson broke the color line as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.
Robinson, who played his entire career with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1947-1956), was the first African-American to break baseball's color line. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
