It's happened 15 times, most recently in 2011 when David Freese of the St. Louis Cardinals hit a walk-off homer in Game 6 of the World Series to set up a Game 7 against the Texas Rangers. The Cardinals went on to win the world title.

Only two World Series have ended because of dramatic home runs. In Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, Bill Mazeroski of the Pittsburgh Pirates hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to beat the New York Yankees 10-9. In Game 6 of the 1992 World Series, Joe Carter of the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-6 with a three-run shot in the ninth off reliever Mitch Williams.
