Air pressure can be explained as the amount of force applied per unit of area applied to a surface in which case air pressure is usually in some sort of contained environment at which the force applied is being restrained. An air compressor is an example of a contained environment by which an air pump forces air into the contained space. This force is being applied inside the contained space, measured in psi or pounds per square inch, is what creates the pressure. When this pressure is released it has powerful force behind it and is used in many fields of science, mechanics, construction, and other areas/fields in the business world.

∙ 8y agoAs the most simple example, take a deep breath and hold it. You just increased the air pressure in your lungs. Breathe out; you've decreased the air pressure in the lungs. The lungs, a balloon, car tires, medical ventilation machines and other machines all have a capacity to withstand the air pressure being put into one place. A higher air pressure would make something burst. A lower air pressure would make it less functioning.
In addition, planet earth has an "air pressure" that it exerts on humans and life. So as you climb a mountain where the air is thinner, the lungs don't work as well. Or during weather fronts, air pressure can increase with humidity and make it hard to breathe.
