Yankee manager Casey Stengel helped Mickey Mantle to receive a higher salary contract then what Yankee management originally offered. The later to be Baseball super star signed a contract for $7,500 in his rookie year of 1951.
In 1963, super star Mickey Mantle signed his first $100,000 contract with the New York Yankees. As an aside the super legend Babe Ruth signed in 1922, an $50,000 per year contract.

Mickey Mantle wasnt drafted, he was signed to a minor league contract with an affiliate of the New York Yankees out of high school. He did however get drafted by the US Army but failed the physical exam and was rejected as unfit for service.
There were no Topps cards made for Mickey Mantle in 1954, and 1955 because Bowman had an exclusive baseball card contract with Mickey Mantle. In 1956 Topps purchased the Bowman company and ended their rivalry in the sports card market. In 1989, Topps once again began production of cards with the Bowman name.
