Sweden won their semifinal match against Finland Canada won their semifinal match against the USA The match for the gold medal was not today. Canada and Sweden will compete for the gold and silver medal, and the USA and Finland will compete for the bronze medal. The USA/Finland match will be tomorrow (2/22), and the gold medal match will be on Sunday, the 23rd.
Canada won six of the first seven Gold medals in hockey: Antwerp 1920 to Oslo 1952, except for Garmish 1936 where they lost to Great Britain. They then went on a fifty year drought, finally winning Gold in Salt Lake City in 2002. Therefore, Canada's men won the Gold medal in hockey seven times.
That was the 1900 Summer Games in Paris. Canada's first Olympic medal winner was George Orton (born in Strathroy, Ontario) who won gold in the 2,500 meter steeplechase and bronze in the 400 meter hurdles at the 1900 Games.
