Sport and TV revenues?

Dataxis, leading market research and data analysis firm in the communications industry, has just released its September 2009 quarterly updates of free TV revenues, as part of its digitTV service.Within a context characterized by economic recession and ad budget shifting, European TV industry has once again undergone a decline during the third quarter of 2009. Although the decrease in ad revenue is inherent to this period and to the seasonality of TV watching, comparison with last year's revenues shows that TV advertising is still not recovering. This tendency is clearly reflected in the third quarter results of the four major European media groups. Leading European media group in terms of revenues ProsiebenSat saw its third quarter advertising revenue fall from €518 mln in 2008 to €486.5 mln in 2009, thus recording a slight decrease of 4%. On the other hand, Q3 advertising revenues of CME group fell 33% from €197.6 mln in 2008 to €132.1 mln in 2009. Revenues collapsed especially in Ukraine (-70%) and Romania (-40%). RTL group saw its advertising revenues for RTL Germany, RTL Netherlands, RTL Belgium, RTL Televizija, Five and Alpha TV decrease significantly (-25%) from €493.1 mln in Q308 to €371.8 mln in Q309. Among major European media players, Sweden's Modern Times Group was the only company where advertising revenues remained stable compared to the same period last year. (€114 mln).
