∙ 12y agoThe sword was of course used for duels among nobles. It was also a badge of class and honour. Swords were usually very expensive because they required a very skilled smith to craft them. To carry a sword showed how vastly wealthy you were. In many cultures only upper classes were even permitted to carry swords (like Edo era Japan) and so it was a signification of class.
