Slow motion camera's are used to analyze technique and timers are used for timing workout runs. Technology impacts the actual competitions of track and field through the use of electronic timers, lap timers, and photo finishes. The electronic timers are set off by the starting gun and they take a picture and put a time down when a person's chest crosses the finish line. A photo finish is the picture of everyone crossing the finish line, seeing how close the times are to each other. This is usually used when the winner cannot be distinguished through the timer alone.
