Ranfurly Shield - New Zealand Rugby Union
The Ranfurly Shield is named after the 5th Earl of Ranfurly, who served as Governor of New Zealand from 1897 to 1904. Lord Ranfurly donated the shield to encourage rugby competition among the provincial teams in New Zealand, with the shield being awarded to the team that successfully challenges for it and wins.
1957. They defeated Wellington on August 24 and lost to Taranaki on September 28.
