I play inside centre for a club called Gosforth RFC in the northeast of England and basically a inside centre needs to tackle a lot because you will usually be covering the fly half and drifting round to the wing to tackle the winger if he brakes through the line. Also a inside centre needs to handle the ball a lot because the fly half will get the ball outside of a scrum, ruck or line out and pass straight onto you and in that situation you will need to pass the ball down the line or miss pass to the winger or who ever it happens to be and you may need to switch with the other centre in all just depends on how your coach wants you to play. Inside centre will also require running with the ball as well because if you get the ball from who ever and there is no one to pass to you will need to run before the opposing side is up in your face and with any position a good Rugby brain is required but especially at inside centre because if you get the ball you need to know who to pass to, when to switch, when to make the run not unless your fly half has already decided what to do. but on the whole you need to tackle hard, flatten opponents with ball in hand and handle the ball well.
