The Big Ten Conference is an college athletic division in the United States. It is the oldest Division I athletic conference, being established in 1986, and currently has 12 members.

Louisville was a member of Conference USA between 1996-2004. They joined the Big East in 2005.

Iowa joined the Big Ten Conference in 1899. The university was one of the original members of the conference when it was established as the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives. Since then, Iowa has been an integral part of the Big Ten, competing in various sports.
Four of the former Southwest Conference teams joined the Big 12: Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor and Texas University.

The University of Texas, along with Baylor, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, all left the Southwest Conference and joined the newly-formed Big 12 Conference in 1996.
Syracuse University is not currently a member of the Big East Conference. The school left the Big East in 2013 and joined the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Historically, Syracuse was a prominent member of the Big East, particularly in basketball, but its affiliation has since changed.

WVU joined the Big East for the 1991 season. Prior to 1991, they were a Division 1 independent between the years 1968-1990. From 1950-1967, WVU was a member of the Southern Conference.
