Did the 164th infantry regiment receive the combat infantrymans badge as a whole during their time in the pacific theater in World War 2?

Answer Custermen is correct that the 164th as a whole regiment would not have received the Comabt Infantry Badge. I have done extensive research of the 164th (my Grandfather was a member of Co "I" 164th Inf. Reg) it seems like many or most of them did end up receiving the CAB. This was probably due to their months of training (a little over 9 for original members) at Camp Claiborne, La and the combat situations they were in on Guadalcanal and other battles. They were part of the Americal (a combination of America(n) and New Caledonia- where they were formed) Division and they were the only division in WWII that did not have a number in their Division name. The Combat Infantrymans Badge was an individual award given to infantrymen(according to their training classification) who had been in combat. That meant that everyone in the Regiment would not receive the CIB because some were not rated as infantrymen OR they were not in actual combat. (Reference AR 600-8-22, Para 8-6). The CIB was authorized in 1943. The requirements are very different from the newer Combat Action Badge (CAB) that was created in 1991. The 164th Infantry Regiment was part of the "Americal" Infantry Division that served in the Pacific Theater. "Ameri-" was derived from the American Troops forming the Division, and "cal" from New Caledonia where it was organized. It was the only non-numbered division in US Army history. It was inactivated in 1945, then reactivated by the Regular Army in 1954 as Hqs, 23rd Division; redesignated HHC, 23rd Division for Vietnam; and was inactivated in 1971 at Ft. Lewis, WA.
