It is a procedure where a ligament in the elbow is replaced with a ligament from elsewhere in the body. It was named after a Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher named of course, Tommy John, who was the first to successfully go through the surgery.

I had the meniscus removed form my knee this last surgery, they were to cut a torn piece away but they removed it.
