of the 7', 3' should be toward the backstop and 4' should be toward the outfield from the mid-angle point of home plate.
from about a half a foot from the front of the plate to about a half a foot from the back of the plate. if you are facing a fast pitcher, you want to be in the back of the nox so you have more time when then ball comes out of the pitchers hand. if you have a slow pitcher you want to be in the front of the box incase the ball dips or rises.
Page 4 of the Official Baseball Rules shows a diagram of the infield, stating the batters box is 4 feet by 6 feet.

The ball should never hit in the batter's box in any softball game. The coach may want to remove that pitcher if he or she continues to pitch like that.

NOTE: Due to size of the ball the strike zone in softball can seem wider than MLB, but it's similar. Also the rules of the batters box differ between softball and baseball.
