I did some research after getting a concussion and found that the m11 (designed by mark messier) is different (and better, apparently) in how it distributes force around the head. It is a one piece helmet, as opposed to most hockey helmets which are two pieces. The padding on the inside is also different, and I find it to be more comfortable. The only problem I have is it's a pain to change the size of the helmet.
The Harvard hockey team recently switched to the m11, so if the helmet is good enough to protect their brains, it's good enough to protect mine
