The statement at the bottom of this post or "answer" is sort of right but horribly wrong.

In the context of socially accepted, all drugs advertised on TV are socially accepted. That is without doubt a fundamental truth. You will also notice that tobacco products are not allowed to be advertised on TV while nicotine products are. Nicotine is really what smokers are after and it can be classified as a drug but nicotine is only advertised as socially acceptable as long as it is in the form of treatment.

It is impossible to answer your question in regards to the top five though. I could make an argument that motrin and nyquil are socially accepted drugs.
