The first time Australia was represented in rowing at the Olympic Games was at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. Cecil McVilly from Tasmania was in the Men's Single Scull, an event from which he was disqualified for interference in the heat that he won. There was also a Men's Eight team, which was eliminated in the semi-finals. Australia was represented at all ensuing Olympics, except for the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. Prior to this, an Australian actually rowed for Great Britain at the 1908 London Olympic Games, but there was no Australian representation. A similar situation occurred at Antwerp in 1920. See the link for more detailed information on the history of Australian rowing at the Olympics.
