What are some of the spins in figure skating?

When you begin to spin in figure skating, you would begin with a two foot spin. You then would move onto a one foot spin. A basic spin that beginners learn next is called the scratch (or crossfoot)spin. As you become more advanced, the difficulty of spins becomes harder. Sit spins, Camel spins, Laybacks, and Back (scratch) spin are more of the basic of those harder spins and to create a combination spin, you combine basic spins with variations.Types of spins: there are many variances in spins - with different positioning of hands and free leg. Then there is combination spins which has the skater changing position, change of foot, change of edge, which leaves the door open to various spins.Types of spin:· Attitude spin· Biellmann Spin - variance - half-Biellman Spin, One-handed Biellman spin· Basic camel spin· Basic one-foot spin· Basic sit spin· Basic two-foot spin· Butterfly spin· Broken leg sit spin· Cannonball spin· Corkscrew also know and Crossover Spin· Corkscrew sit spin· Death drop also know as flying open Axel sit spin· Dounghnut spin also know as horizontal Biellmann· Flying camel spin· Flying sit spin· Illusion spin· I Spin· Layback Spin - variance - Catch foot layback spin also know as haircutter· One leg spin· Pancake spin· Scratch spin - variance - back scratch· Side-by-side shotgun spins· Shotgun spin· Y spin - ankle hold - variance Y-spin - skate hold

Why is a scratch spin in figure skating called a scratch spin?

The scratch spin is an upright spin where the free leg is crossed over the skating knee and then pushed down towards the ice. As the arms are pulled in towards the chest, a blur effect can be achieved if the spin is done fast. It is the most popular spin among figure skaters.

How do you increase and stop the spin in skating?

To increase the spin, pull in your arms and they will stop slowing the spin down. Keeping them out will slow the spin down and you will spin for a smaller period of time. To stop the spin, stick your toe-pick into the ice, and you will stop. I hoped that helped you! :D

What are the components of figure skating?

Required elements in competition vary from men's, ladies and pairs skating. There are common elements, though, and in singles skating they include: Axel jump, triple jump solo and triple jump in combination (with another triple or double jump), flying and sit spins, layback spin (ladies only), a spin combination and a step sequence. All these moves must be connected with footwork, spirals or a number of moves called transitions, that are choreographed to make a skating routine a "complete package." Pairs elements include: side-by-side double or triple jump, double or triple twist lift, a double or triple throw, a death spiral, combination pairs spin, step sequences and transitions smoothly connecting the elements. Each year the International Skating Union (ISU) prescribes certain variations of elements in pairs that are to be performed that year. These guidelines include the grip used in a pairs lift, the edge to be used in a death spiral, and variations in the spin combination.

How do you do a basic spin in figure skating?

There are three steps in completing a basic spin for figure skating: 1. You want to get a little bit of speed so that you can actually spin. 2. You want to have the foot you balance on better on the inside part of your blade and the other foot tilted in a lunging position. 3. Spin your foot around your other foot and slowly bring in your arms so they cross and spin in 360 degrees.
